What we treat as an emergency

If it stops you getting in, stops you locking up, or leaves a property open, it is urgent. Everything else can be booked for a time that suits you, at the normal rate.

A door that has been forced needs more than an opening. See repairs after a break-in, where the damage report for your insurer is part of the visit. If the lock itself has reached the end of its life, changing the lock is the sensible follow-up once you are back inside.

What we will not do at three in the morning

We do not cut, copy or supply keys, at any hour. If your problem is that you need a spare key, that is not an emergency call-out and we will say so on the phone.

Vehicles are opening only. If the keys are locked inside a car, see car opening. If the key is lost or will not start the car, that is a job for a main dealer or an auto key specialist, not for us.

We will also not open a door for someone who cannot show a reasonable connection to the property. Identification and, for rentals, confirmation from the owner or manager, is asked for every time.

Are you really available 24 hours a day?

Yes: the phone is answered 24 hours a day, every day. What varies is how quickly a technician can set off, because that depends on what is already in progress and where it is. You are told that honestly when you call, rather than after you have waited an hour on a landing.

How much more does an out-of-hours call-out cost?

Night, weekend and public holiday work is charged at a higher rate than a weekday visit. The figure is given on the phone before anyone travels, so nothing on the invoice is a surprise.

I have lost my keys somewhere in Altea. Should I change the lock?

If the keys were lost with anything that identifies your address, such as a car key, a parking remote or a letter, change the cylinder. If they went into the sea or disappeared in a bar with nothing attached, opening the door and keeping a closer eye on things is usually enough. We will tell you which case you are in rather than selling you a cylinder you do not need.

The key snapped and half of it is still in the lock. What now?

Leave it alone. The blade sitting in the cylinder can often be extracted and the lock saved, but only while it has not been pushed deeper or twisted with pliers. Do not use glue, a screw or a magnet: those are what turn a ten minute extraction into a cylinder replacement.

Is a jammed lock an emergency if I am inside the house?

It is. A door that will not lock cannot be left overnight, and a lock that has seized with you inside is a fire safety problem, not an inconvenience. Both are treated as urgent.

Do you attend emergencies in the old town, where a van cannot get through?

Yes. The stepped streets above the church are pedestrian-only, so the van stops at the nearest access point and the tools come up on foot. Tell us the street name and the nearest square when you call and the right kit comes up on the first trip.
