Making the property secure
The first job is that you can lock your own front door tonight. That usually means a new cylinder, a repaired or replaced lock case, and whatever it takes on the frame to let the bolt land where it should.

Should I call the police before a locksmith?
Yes. Report it first and get the reference number, because your insurer will ask for it and photographs taken before repairs are worth more than any description afterwards. Then call us to make the property secure.
Can you make the property secure tonight and repair it properly later?
That is the usual sequence. The first visit is about being able to lock the door and sleep; a second visit deals with frames, replacement units or upgrades once you have spoken to your insurer.
Will I get paperwork for the insurance claim?
Yes. Photographs of the damage before and after, an itemised invoice describing what was replaced and why, and a plain description of the point of entry. Claims are refused far more often for thin documentation than for the repair itself.
